Users Spend More on Dating Apps Now, While Less on Other Apps

It’s an already noticed trend that users spend less of their money on apps and in-app purchases now because of the global recession. Yet some sorts of apps turned out to be resistant to it. The most noticeable trend breaker turned out to be dating apps, on which users spent about 16% more in the latest period than in the same period the previous year.

This follows from the report by data.ai that reviews total spending on various mobile app categories in 2022. The report covers H1 2022, comparing it to the same period of 2022, which provides a more reliable view of current trends. As for the undisputed leader of the category, Tinder, it has recently shown a 7% increase. This is lower than the average increase for the category, yet it’s still an increase.

What does it indicate globally? Probably, it’s a serious reevaluation of things. While mobile games are not that important for survival, relationships are. No matter if someone is searching for a ONS or an LTR, it’s got a lot more to do with real physical life than gems and coins in games. Business apps are something you can cut your expenses on after some calculation, but love and emotions are not about saving: they are about emotions.

As for new breakout apps (which still happen, despite the common preconception that “everything has been invented”), the champion is BeReal. This social app allows people to share the moments of their life in real-time, without posing or postprocessing was downloaded 2.8 million times in the UK only. This shows the remaining request for realism from the public already blasé with staged and processed pictures and videos.

And what about you? Have you been an active Tinder or Hinge user these days? If so, did you spend more money on it, and were you satisfied in the end? Share your romantic experience with us in the comments if you please!
