Alien vs. Predator: A Potential Directorial Dream Team Emerges with Fede Alvarez and Dan Trachtenberg

In the ever-evolving landscape of sci-fi cinema, the idea of an epic showdown between iconic creatures has captured the imaginations of fans worldwide. Recently, Fede Alvarez, the director of Alien: Romulus, expressed a strong interest in creating an Alien vs. Predator film. However, he envisions this project as a collaborative effort, rather than a solo venture.

In a recent discussion with Deadline, Alvarez, known for his previous works like Evil Dead and Don't Breathe, mentioned the prospect of joining forces with Dan Trachtenberg, the director of Prey. He suggested drawing inspiration from the collaboration between Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez in their work on Dusk till Dawn.

Alvarez proposed a shared directing approach, indicating that he might take on the first half of the film while Trachtenberg directs the latter half. Although Rodriguez is credited with directing From Dusk till Dawn, speculations have long persisted regarding the behind-the-scenes contributions from Tarantino.

The decision to move forward hinges on the success of Romulus, according to Alvarez. He believes audience reception will play a key role in determining the feasibility of an Alien vs. Predator installment.

Alien: Romulus, featuring Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, and Cailee Spaeny, centers on a group of young space colonizers facing off against the notorious monsters aboard a derelict space station. The film has garnered positive feedback from viewers and critics alike, currently holding an impressive 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and achieving a noteworthy $108 million during its opening weekend.

While Trachtenberg’s Prey did not see a theatrical release, it received high praise from audiences, reflected in its 94% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Given the poor reception of previous Alien vs. Predator entries, both of which are often criticized, it would be fascinating to witness how Alvarez and Trachtenberg plan to revitalize the franchise.

Currently, Alien: Romulus is in theaters, while Prey is available for streaming on Hulu in the United States and Disney Plus in the United Kingdom. For those seeking guidance on viewing the Alien series in order, or looking forward to other thrilling upcoming films, resources are available.
